• Students will be awarded SSL hours on the spot.
• Parents are asked to bring landscaping tools – leaf rakes, loppers, pruning shears, hedge clippers, pitch forks, shovels to spread mulch, brooms, gloves and large contractor-sized trash bags – and their supervisory skills. (Make sure to label your tools before you arrive.)
• The Warrior Club will provide water.
• Pitch in for an hour or all day, and show your Warrior Pride!

Please contact us if you have questions, if you can bring a gas-powered weed whacker, or if you are willing to supervise one of our work stations.

Campus Clean Up Day Coordinators

 If you want to get more involved with the PTSA and need to do it from home during evening hours, this is the PTSA position for you! The nominating committee will begin work in April and end in early May. The committee will collect nomination forms, contact interested parents and current officers for recommendations.

Nominations are being sought for the 2011-2012 PTSA Executive Board.  Elections for the 2011–2012 PTSA Executive Board will be held at the May 17th PTSA Meeting.  The deadline for the nomination form is April 25th but nominations from the floor are allowed at the May 17th PTSA Meeting.

If you are interested/available to help with any of the following, please let us know!

We need help decorating Longwood Recreation Center for our fun event from 8 am to 3 pm on Saturday May, 21st.  If you are available to help, even for 1/2 hour, please let us know!  We will need help hanging and taping up all the decorations!

SSL hours are available for decorating the recreation center!  High School students are encouraged to help, and Middle School students are welcome to help when accompanied by an adult volunteer! 

We will also need help during our wonderful After Prom!  Interested in manning a Black Jack table?  Want to help pass out pizza or pasta?  Excited to call bingo?  We could really use your help!  Shifts are available from 11:30 pm until 5 am on May 22nd!  Only able to work for an hour?!  That would be perfect….just let us know what time would work for you!

Not a night person?!  Up early every morn?!   We can still use your help!  We can use a “fresh crew” to help with clean up from 4:30am to 6am on Sunday morning!

We are collecting prizes for our After Prom party – we give away prizes all night long, from 12 am to 5 am…the better and more prizes we have, the longer we can keep our teenagers safe and interested in staying at After Prom! 

We would love any new items you were keeping to “re-gift” or any that you just can’t use, and can put to good use any gift cards you don’t want!    Any contributions would be so greatly appreciated!

• The Warrior Club is sponsoring, but anyone may help plant, prune, weed and mow.
• Students are awarded SSL hours on the spot.
• Parents are asked to bring your gardening tools and supervisory skills. 
• Stay one hour or all day as we work on fields and flower beds. 
• If you can bring large green contractor size trash bags for debris that will help with disposal.

We will be spreading about 25 yards of mulch on Saturday. For those who cannot join us on Saturday but would like to help in another way, consider being a mulch sponsor by buying a yard (or two) of mulch for the Warrior Club at $30 per yard. Let me know if you want to help in this way.

Note that students will earn SSL hours for this event.

Dear Sherwood Parents,

It is estimated that at least 12% of the population has some type of disability. Thousands of children with special needs are served in our schools  in both general education and special education
settings. In light of the above, it is imperative that we reach out to these families by recruiting Special Education Committee Chairs/Members for each PT(S)A.

For a variety of reasons, special needs families are often isolated. The PT(S)A can be a real lifeline for many.

The information below describes just some of the things that a Special Education Chair/Member can do to advocate for special families and those who serve them.

A Special Education Chairperson works within his or her school community to serve as a resource to parents, caregivers and school staff members by:

Helping parents to understand the Special Education Process and providing consideration of Special Education to the school and PTA policies, activities and plans by:

Sitting on the School PTA Executive Committee or Board

Participating on the School Improvement Plan Committee, Grading and Reporting or other PTA or Countywide sponsored Committees

Informing the school community of MCPS and other related resources by:

* Writing PTA Newsletter Articles

* Requesting funds from the school PTA to support purchases and
committee work (ex. Special Ed. Library)

* Placing materials in the designated areas, such as Resource
Center, Bulletin Boards, online listserves

* Staying abreast on news and bulletin items on various websites
such as MCPS Website www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org and MCCPTA Website http://www.mccpta.com/ and many others.

*And last but not least, facilitating family-school communication.

We are looking for two parents, with children in the 10th grade and up, with different experiences to be a part of this panel — one whose child may have struggled in their freshman year and how they worked to help their child succeed; and one whose child found the transition to high school easier.

Brenda has been working overtime this summer getting the websites prepared to allow us to accept both directory info and membership/donation contributions for both Sherwood High School and Rosa Parks Middle School. She has created an amazing site for us to make our lives easier! She makes it look so simple and easy, doesn’t she? We can’t thank her enough for all the time and mind twisting effort involved. She is a wonderful example of Sherwood Volunteers at work!
