The Sherwood High School PTSA will be sponsoring the After Prom which will be held on Sunday May 19, 2012 from 12:00 am to 5:00 am. The PTSA is proud to host this alcohol/drug free event that provides a safe haven for Sherwood students during that critical time when prom is over.

As the largest and oldest children’s advocacy association in the nation, PTSA  helps to promote the well-being of all children through advocating for  supportive laws and policies. Please keep in mind that as a PTSA member and  leader you are doing great things for children in your school communities. It is  not only membership that makes PTSA a success; it is also the leadership and
active involvement of parents, teachers and students. Studies have proven that  parental involvement provides children with a greater chance of achieving in  school. PTSA helps to strengthen schools and keeps families and community  leaders connected in support of education.

The SHS PTSA has been preparing for the 2011 – 2012 school year for several  months now. The directory information is being collected, the summer mailing was  sent, the first PTSA meeting is being planned for Tuesday 9/20/11 and Back to  School Night, Thursday 9/22/11, is just around the corner.

Additional Donations

The SHS PTSA also has 3 funds that support and sponsor specific activities in  the SHS Community:

1.  After Prom: Provides a fun and safe event for SHS Juniors and Seniors at  Longwood Center.
2.  Scholarship: The PTSA provided 20 Scholarships to Seniors this past June. The  application process begins in Spring, with Scholarships awarded at Senior night.
3.  General Fund: The General Fund supports value added activities in school, such  as the Art Show, Every 15 Minutes, Programs on Driving Safety and Making Good  Choices Identifying Issues on Drinking, and Faculty submitted activities.

With so many wonderful people volunteering in so many different ways, we can’t begin to thank everyone by name. But we would like to acknowledge a few special volunteers. A HUGE thank you to Tina Velasquez, who came up with the concept, design and implementation of the themed decorations. Her vision and talents are what made our Circus come to life! Thanks very much also to Katie Nardone, Teresa Chaput, Elizabeth Lakey, Beth Levin and Amy Banda for helping bring even more magic to the Circus decorations. Special thanks to Rhonda Molleur and Diane Cutler for making sure the kids were well fed, and Ann Bend and Franka Kimmel for finding us great prizes. Sight and Sound Support, Inc, under the direction of Tammy and Jeff King, worked tirelessly in setting up all the technical
aspects of the event, and generously allowed us to work in their warehouse to create the decorations. The list of thanks could go on and on – we had so many hardworking volunteers who helped make this all happen.

We cannot express enough how much we appreciate the many, many hours of work so many of you contributed, for the donations of food, prizes and gifts, for lending us things, for staying up all night or getting up so early….we are
truly grateful to all of you for the many ways, big and small, you helped make After Prom 2011 such a success!

If you are interested/available to help with any of the following, please let us know!

We need help decorating Longwood Recreation Center for our fun event from 8 am to 3 pm on Saturday May, 21st.  If you are available to help, even for 1/2 hour, please let us know!  We will need help hanging and taping up all the decorations!

SSL hours are available for decorating the recreation center!  High School students are encouraged to help, and Middle School students are welcome to help when accompanied by an adult volunteer! 

We will also need help during our wonderful After Prom!  Interested in manning a Black Jack table?  Want to help pass out pizza or pasta?  Excited to call bingo?  We could really use your help!  Shifts are available from 11:30 pm until 5 am on May 22nd!  Only able to work for an hour?!  That would be perfect….just let us know what time would work for you!

Not a night person?!  Up early every morn?!   We can still use your help!  We can use a “fresh crew” to help with clean up from 4:30am to 6am on Sunday morning!

Interested in helping with any of these shifts?!  We would be so grateful!!  Just let us know when you are available…contact Lauri Black at lauriblack@comcast.net to schedule your time.

We are collecting prizes for our After Prom party – we give away prizes all night long, from 12 am to 5 am…the better and more prizes we have, the longer we can keep our teenagers safe and interested in staying at After Prom! 

We would love any new items you were keeping to “re-gift” or any that you just can’t use, and can put to good use any gift cards you don’t want!    Any contributions would be so greatly appreciated!

The Sherwood High School PTSA is once again sponsoring After Prom.  This year, After Prom will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 12:30 to 5:00 am, at Recreation Center, immediately following the Junior/Senior Prom.  Sherwood High School was one of the first Montgomery County High School’s to sponsor an After Prom Event.  The PTSA is proud to host this alcohol/drug free event that provides a safe haven for our Sherwood students during that critical time when prom is over, and we are grateful that none of our students have been involved in an alcohol/drug related death on prom night.

The Sherwood PTSA is looking for slightly used evening dresses, matching shoes, purses, and jewelry for our “New to You”  prom dress program.  The “New to You”prom dress program is an affordable alternative to prom dress shopping. Let’s not forget about the guys. If you have men’s suits, tuxes, shoes, or accessories we can use those too.

Your donations will be re-sold at low prices to make Prom a wonderful evening and After Prom a huge success.

All proceeds will be used for Sherwood High School’s After Prom Event. The primary goal of After Prom is to ensure the safety and well-being of “invincible” high school teenagers – those who go to the Prom, as well as, those who don’t. After Prom provides a fun safe alcohol free environment.

Please clean out your closets, drawers’, basements, and attics and donate any of your formal wear to our prom dress program. We will accept any cocktail dress, homecoming dress, prom dress, or any formal wear and accessories you may have taking up space.

A drop off box will be in the main office at Sherwood high school. Collection begins on Monday, Feb 14.

All purchases are cash only.
